Don’t pass up this chance to add sophistication and rarity to your collection by acquiring the King of Variegation.

Description:

Scientific Name: Anubias barteri var. “King”

Common Name: King Anubias

Family: Araceae

Origin: Native to West Africa, especially in riverbanks and marshes.

Physical Characteristics:

Leaves: The leaves of Anubias barteri var. King With its stunning rainbow of greens, whites, and sporadic hints of yellow, every Anubias Varking leaf is a one-of-a-kind work of art.

Growth Rate: Anubias barteri var. King is a slow-growing plant. It can take a few months to establish and grow, but once it does, it’s relatively hardy and long-lasting.

Size: The plant can grow to a height of about 10–18 inches (25–45 cm), with leaves reaching 6-8 inches in length.

Care Requirements:

Lighting:

It thrives in low to moderate light conditions. Anubias plants, including this variety, can grow well in tanks with low light, but they can also adapt to moderate lighting.

High lighting is not necessary and might encourage algae growth on the leaves.

Temperature:

Prefers a water temperature between 72–82°F (22–28°C). It’s important to maintain a stable temperature range.

Water Parameters:

pH: Prefers a slightly acidic to neutral pH, around 6.5 to 7.5.

Hardness: It can tolerate soft to moderately hard water conditions.

CO2 Requirements: Anubias barteri var. King doesn’t require CO2 supplementation, which makes it easy to maintain in both low-tech and high-tech aquariums. However, you’ll observe a lot more growth if you provide CO2.

Substrate:

The plant does best when its rhizome (the thick stem that anchors the plant) is placed on top of the substrate or attached to rocks or driftwood. The roots can be buried, but the rhizome should remain above the substrate to prevent rot.

Maintenance:

It is low-maintenance, requiring occasional cleaning of dead or decaying leaves.

Regular pruning might be needed to keep the plant from taking over too much space in the aquarium.

Tank Compatibility:

Aquarium Size: Anubias barteri var. King is versatile and can be grown in both small and large aquariums. It’s often used in aquascaping to add contrast and texture to the overall design.

Fish Compatibility: It’s suitable for tanks with peaceful fish species, as it can tolerate a variety of water conditions and won’t be eaten by most fish. However, some herbivorous fish like snails or certain types of cichlids may nibble on the leaves.

Propagation:

Anubias barteri var. King propagates through division. To propagate, you can carefully cut the rhizome into two parts, ensuring each part has a few leaves and roots attached. Each new piece will grow into a new plant.

Benefits in Aquariums:

Aesthetic Appeal: It adds a lush, natural look to the aquarium with its large, attractive stunning rainbow of greens, whites, and sporadic hints of yellow

Water Quality: Like other plants, Anubias barteri var. King can help improve water quality by absorbing excess nutrients, thus potentially reducing algae growth.

Common Issues:

Algae Growth: Anubias plants, especially in tanks with excess light or nutrients, can sometimes develop algae on their leaves, which can be cleaned off gently.

Rotting Rhizomes: If the rhizome is buried too deeply in the substrate or if it stays in stagnant water, it can rot. Always ensure that the rhizome is above the substrate.

Anubias barteri var. nana ‘Tropica Mini Coin’ is a charming, compact cultivar of the Anubias plant that is popular among aquascapers and aquarium enthusiasts due to its unique appearance and small size. It is a variety of the well-known Anubias barteri, but with specific traits that make it stand out in aquariums.

Key Characteristics of Anubias ‘Tropica Mini Coin’:

Appearance:

The leaves of Anubias ‘Tropica Mini Coin’ are small, rounded, and have a distinctive coin-like shape, which is where it gets its “mini coin” name.

The leaves are dark green with a smooth, leathery texture and a shiny appearance, which gives them a sleek, attractive look.

It’s a dwarf variety, so it stays small and compact, which is ideal for aquariums with limited space or aquascaping designs where smaller plants are preferred.

Size:

This variety is particularly small, with a maximum height typically reaching around 2 to 3 inches (5-7 cm). Its compact size makes it perfect for nano tanks, small aquariums, or even terrariums.

It grows slowly, which is typical of many Anubias species, and requires minimal maintenance in terms of trimming and care.

Hardiness:

Anubias ‘Tropica Mini Coin’ is a robust and hardy plant, much like other Anubias varieties. It’s well-suited to a range of aquarium conditions and can handle different water parameters.

It tolerates low to moderate light conditions, making it a great choice for aquariums with less intense lighting or even low-tech setups.

It’s relatively low-maintenance and will grow well even in tanks with less frequent care.

Care Requirements:

Water Conditions: It thrives in a range of water temperatures (72-82°F or 22-28°C) and can tolerate soft to moderately hard water with a pH of 6.5 to 7.5. It does well in freshwater setups.

Lighting: Like many Anubias species, Tropica Mini Coin doesn’t require intense light to grow. It performs best under low to moderate lighting conditions. High lighting can encourage algae growth on its leaves, so it’s important to maintain balanced lighting.

Substrate: This plant can be attached to rocks, driftwood, or decorations, as it’s an epiphytic plant (it doesn’t need to be planted in the substrate to thrive). If you do plant it in the substrate, ensure the rhizome is not buried, as that can cause rot.

Fertilization: While it doesn’t have high nutrient demands, providing occasional liquid fertilizers or root tabs can help it grow more healthily, especially if you’re growing it in a nutrient-poor setup.

Growth Rate:

Anubias ‘Tropica Mini Coin’ has a very slow growth rate. It may take time to develop and spread, which is why it is a good choice for aquarists who prefer low-maintenance plants.

It does not require frequent trimming, but if the leaves start to grow too large or damaged, they can be pruned.

Tank Compatibility:

This plant is versatile and can fit in a variety of setups, including nano aquariums, planted tanks, and aquascapes.

It’s safe for tanks with shrimp, snails, and small fish since these animals typically don’t damage the plant. However, like other Anubias species, it can be grazed upon by larger herbivorous fish, although it generally grows back easily.

Its compact size and aesthetic appeal make it ideal for foreground planting or as part of aquascaping designs like carpeting or small bushy accents.

In Summary:

Anubias barteri var. nana ‘Tropica Mini Coin’ is a beautiful and compact plant that’s perfect for small aquariums and nano setups. Its rounded, coin-like leaves add a distinct texture and color to aquascapes. It’s easy to care for, hardy, and grows slowly, making it a low-maintenance addition to any tank. Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned aquascaper, this plant offers a lovely, effortless touch to your underwater landscape.

Common Name: Anubias Nana ‘Jade’

‘Jade’ is a new cultivar of Anubias barteri var. nana. The cultivar name refers to jade, the most important gemstone in China. The leaf colouring and patterning of this small Anubias is reminiscent of the jade with its multiple shades of green and often a special grain in the form of small veins, stripes and spots. The growth height is about 3 – 5 cm.

The Dwarf Anubias with its various forms is a decidedly easy, albeit slow-growing plant. Anubias barteri var. nana is primarily a perching plant and attaches itself with its roots to hard materials such as wood or stones. It can also be attached to the substrate, but the rhizome should not be buried, otherwise it could rot. This Anubias will grow under very low light levels as well as under strong light. Adding CO2 is not absolutely necessary, but it is beneficial for growth. Especially in strong light, a complete nutrient supply via the water column is recommended. The plant is tolerant of water values, it grows in very soft to hard water and at pH values between 5 and 9. The optimum temperature range is around 22 and 28 °C. Propagation is done by dividing the rootstock (rhizome) and cutting off side shoots.

This Anubias cultivar is particularly recommended as a perching plant for small aquariums and for aquascaping. The light leaf colour of Anubias barteri var. nana ‘Jade’ forms an effective contrast to dark green plants in the foreground.

Family Name: Araceae

Height: 2-8cm

pH: 5-9

Care: Easy

Light: Medium-High

Co2: Not necessary/0 – 10 mg/l

Propagation: Separate by rhizome

Growth rate: Slow to moderate

Anubias Pangolino is a super rare variant of Anubias thats highly sought after due to its tiny leaves. This plant is smaller than Anubias Nana Petite and bears a slight resemblance to Bucephalandra Mini Coin. It’s a very slow growing plant that’s named after the scales of a Pangolin.

Like other Anubias, this variant is a flowering plant that grows best when the rhizome is attached to a hard surface such as wood or stones. They have low to medium light requirements and can benefit from regular fertilization. CO2 is not necessary but can promote faster growth and more robust leaves. Since its a slow grower, the leaves are susceptible to algae growth if placed under high lighting.

Propagation is easy and straightforward; simply cut or pull apart rhizomes to be replanted. Make sure to keep the rhizomes above your substrate or the plant can begin to rot.

CO2 injection and quality aquarium soil will yield better growth.

Please research appropriately to ensure your plant thrives.

Common Name: Anubias Chili Mini

Anubias Chili Mini is an extremely rare variant in the Anubias family that is highly sought after due to its small leaves. Anubias Chili Mini is smaller than some of the more commonly known Anubias variations such as Anubias Nana Petite. Anubias Chili Mini closely resembles Anubias Pangolino, another rare variant of Anubias. However, this Anubias plant’s small leaves resemble mini chili peppers, earning its name. Chili Mini is very easy to care for in a planted aquarium and does not require much to do well in a planted tank. Like all Anubias plants, Anubias Chili Mini is a slow grower, so patience is a must.

Anubias Chili Mini will grow best when the rhizome is attached to a hard surface such as aquarium driftwood or stones. Anubias species have low to medium light requirements and will benefit from regular fertilization along with CO2 injection. While CO2 is not necessary, it will promote faster growth and more robust leaves. Since Anubias are slow growers, its leaves are susceptible to algae growth if placed under lighting that is too strong or if maintenance is not consistent.

Propagation is easy and straightforward. To propagate Anubias, simply cut or pull apart rhizomes to be replanted or reattached. Make sure to keep the rhizomes above your substrate or the plant has the potential to rot.

This is a rare and highly sought-after species that comes from artificial selection by humans. The almost completely white leaves were carefully propagated from darker green leaves of another species. They do require more light than the parent species to retain their white coloration.

Anubias Broad White is small to medium-sized and is a great choice for nano aquariums. It is a slow grower, but worth the wait for how eye-catching its whitish leaves are in the tank. These leaves give excellent contrast to dark-colored rocks (such as lava rocks) and roots!

Common Name: Anubias Giant Stardust

Anubias Giant Stardust is an extremely rare, beautiful aquarium plant. Appearance is comparable to the original Anubias Stardust, but this variation is much larger in size making it suitable for all aquariums. A key characteristic of this plant is its white veins that run down the center of its leaves. This paired with a slightly speckled color provides a pop in any planted aquarium.

Care is similar to other species of Anubias, but quality lighting and clean water are highly recommended to encourage healthy growth and more stable coloration. Anubias Giant Stardust works beautifully in the midground area of the planted tank or anywhere where additional greenery is needed. Like most Anubias species, it is a slow grower, but worth the wait for its ornamental display and hardy nature. These leaves give excellent contrast to dark-colored rocks (such as lava rocks) and roots!
