How to Use Alder Cones?

Alder cones are quite easy to use. It might actually be as simple as purchasing a large quantity and adding them to your tank! However, since the cones float initially and may take some time to get wet and sink, most aquarists prefer to soak them in beforehand.

Remember that alder cones have a lot of power. Avoid adding many handfuls to your tank all at once. Try beginning with one cone for every five gallons instead. If you want to move up from there, wait a little while to see what occurs. You may either replace the cones or leave them in for the shrimp to eat after they have been leaching tannins for approximately a month.
